G-SHOCK’s “MR-G” series represents the brand’s flagship line of ultra-durable timepieces that combine cutting-edge technology with beautifully-finished metal cases and bracelets. Drawing inspiration from the very first G-SHOCK ever created, the MRG-B5000D-1 and MRG-B5000B-1 reimagine the classic fan-favorite “square” silhouette with Bluetooth-equipped movements and state-of-the-art materials, including two different types of titanium and an extra-hard proprietary alloy known as COBARION®.
At 12.9mm thick, the 43.2mm wide by 49.4mm lug-to-lug cases retain the highly versatile proportions of the original model, and the watches even feature the same “brick” pattern and red outline around their digital displays as a tribute to the inaugural design. However, that is where the similarities end, as their cases are crafted from a special blend of Ti64 titanium, while their solid-link bracelets are made from DAT55G, a different titanium-based alloy with a hardness rating of about three times that of pure titanium.
To further enhance their scratch resistance and elevated aesthetic, the top sections of their immaculately constructed, 25-component bezels are rendered in COBARION®, a cobalt-chrome alloy that offers a brilliant shine similar to platinum, while simultaneously being four times harder than standard titanium. The MRG-B5000D-1 is coated in titanium carbide for a brilliant metallic finish, while the MRG-B5000B-1 receives a gloss black DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating that is intended to emulate the appearance of the very first G-SHOCK’s black resin bezel and strap.
Internally, the MRG-B5000D-1 and MRG-B5000B-1 also receive the very best that G-SHOCK has to offer, and powering them is the advanced 3501 module. In addition to all of the usual features you’d expect to find on a multi-function digital watch such as an alarm, countdown timer, stopwatch, and world time feature, the 3501 module also offers solar charging, radio-controlled time calibration, Bluetooth pairing to your smartphone for use with the G-SHOCK app, and a gold-plated circuit board retainer plate to reduce electrical resistance.
